1. One night, Castle’s father shot at him and his mother, so they had to run to the nearby store and hide. His father was arrested. Castle looks back on that night as when he learned to run. He runs all the time now. (Chapter 1)

2. Even though the tryouts have passed, Castle just goes up to the line to race Lu during practice and runs in high-tops and jeans, and the race is close. Since Lu is the fastest on the team, that means Castle is very fast too, so Coach agrees to work with him. (Chapter 2)
