Nicholas SparksA modern alternative to SparkNotes and CliffsNotes, SuperSummary offers high-quality Study Guides with detailed chapter summaries and analysis of major themes, characters, and more. For select classroom titles, we also provide Teaching Guides with discussion and quiz questions to prompt student engagement.
Use this activity to engage all types of learners, while requiring that they refer to and incorporate details from the text over the course of the activity.
“EPILOGUE”
In this activity, students compose an epilogue to describe Landon’s life after his marriage to Jamie.
Using details from the text, write an epilogue to describe what happens to Jamie and Landon after their marriage or Landon’s life after Jamie’s death. Use the questions below to guide your composition and draw conclusions about unanswered questions in the novel.
Share a brief summary of your epilogue with your peers; select and read aloud a brief passage.
Teaching Suggestion: Students might benefit from helping to design the details of this activity; for example, they might work together to refine page or word ranges, writing interim process deadlines and guidelines for “publishing,” sharing, and peer critiquing. Reviewing short story elements (point of view, setting, theme, etc.) might also be beneficial, as an epilogue includes some aspects of a short work.
